Thought for a Sunday- 19 February 2012
Hi Everyone. Hope you had a good week. Thank you for taking a few minutes of your busy day to spend with me. I'm looking out my window this morning at a cold gray sky. The weather people have been talking for days about a possible winter storm and again I may be disappointed. I would love a really good snowstorm, but I feel this year I am out of luck. Not sure if you are experiencing a normal winter or not, but I realize I may not like it, but there are many others that are appreciative of an abnormal winter. We have spring flower stalks about halfway up since the weather has been so warm.
I had a good week - even walked a few times after work. Although the original intention was for a walk with a friend and her dog, I am usually waiting for my friend so thank goodness I have keys to her house as I take the dog for a nice walk any way. I send my friend a text letting her know we have completed our walk and usually I am either home or on the way when she responds. She gets held up at work more than I do so although we don't have a chance to chat, the dog and I are exercising. I usually try to walk a brisk pace and not think about anything in particular - I don't want to solve any issues just enjoy the walk. I feel a little more in sync when the walk is complete. What do you do to put yourself in sync?
I attended a training class on Monday/Tuesday about organizational change and how people react. I have learned (perhaps because of the place I am in my life) to look at change differently than I did in the past. I may not jump right in, but I am definitely more open to it. I may question it, but in the content of moving forward. I did ponder on how quickly we get ourselves in a routine. Monday we went in and picked seats, although we moved around during the day we always went back to our original seats. Tuesday morning we all went back to the seats from Monday. The instructor waited until class started and then said, I forget to tell you that you have to change seats so everyone pick up all your stuff and move to another table. Well I did not change my seat. I pick where I sit or stand for various reasons - usually because I want to watch everything going on around me. I am a person that either sits front row or completely in the back row. I knew everyone else would jump up and move and I would have new people at the table so that was good enough for me. The instructor never said a word, but I know he noticed. I am a person that does follow a routine and sometimes I have to purposely shake myself up - what about you?
On Saturday I went to a business expo in a town nearby. It focused on local businesses and a friend with a business was having a set up so I grabbed another friend and went out there. It was really a gorgeous day here yesterday so it was perfect for a drive in the country so to speak. The expo was very well attended and my friend's set up looked great! I purchased quite a few of her treats and she seemed to be on the way to selling out by the end of the afternoon. If you in the area and walk to check out her treats: Linda's website. If you did not pay attention you could have gotten a little tipsy a the event as there were several vineyards represented giving samples and one distillery (whisky sample was wonderful-:}) I stopped at one sample, but I must say I felt the warmth spread immediately through my body and my back which was kinked almost all day started to relax. They also had quite a few farms for local produce, meat, etc. What a great way to spend some time supporting local businesses. Have you attended any of these expos? Are you surprised by what's in your area?
I went with another friend to lunch after the expo and we had a very pleasant afternoon full of good conversation. She made me laugh when she said, will you write about this in your blog? I said, not sure, but I promise not to use your name. With this in mind, I decided I would call her Snowflake today. We had some good discussions about changes (and I don't mean midlife) that she is making and the impact. She has a tendency to ponder and ponder and ponder which can be paralyzing for some people. Some of the her decisions will definitely impact other areas of her life. A couple of times I would throw some outrageous deadlines in the mix to see what would happen and you could see her practically shrink to think that would mean change sooner. I am hoping I was a good ear and used my inquisitiveness to bring clarity for her. I am also hoping I provided good food for thought. Have you listened to a friend recently?
I know I mention the OWN TV network off and on, as I really really enjoy Oprah's Super Soul Sunday. This week I am learning about the Shadow Effect which is a documentary by Debbie Ford. It is really interesting about the parts of us that we hide. There will be an interview after the movie with Debbie so I'm hoping to catch that as well. I went to website Debbie Ford to sign up for weekly emails.
I'm working on taxes today for a small investment group I am part of. It does not make my day as I don't find this sort of thing fun. I look at it as something I must do and want to get done soonest. It does teach me patience though as I have to continue to look at the instructions and past examples. It does force a bit of organizational skill to be sure everything is together that is needed. Hopefully, I'll finish this afternoon and will still squeeze in a nap. What happens to you when doing something you don't really want to do?
I am halfway done the final vigilante books I have been reading (#20). They have provided me many laughs over the past few weeks. Once completed, I can then focus on the two months worth of magazines I have stacked up and a bunch of other books. I love to read as my imagination becomes very active picturing everything that is happening.
Just a heads up that next week the blog will be late. I'm traveling so it may be a day early or a day late - depending on when I put it together.
I hope you have a good week. Take care. Chat soon. Marie
