Thought for a Sunday - 29 January 2012

Hi Everyone.  Hope this finds you well this last Sunday (can you believe it already) in January.  I am looking out my window this morning at a cloudy sky, but not dark and stormy.  It was sunny when I was out early this morning.  Still not really winter here in Northern Virginia - we had a small storm this past week, but it amounted to nothing.  Not sure what's happening where you are, but I hope it's what you want or expect this time of year.

My week was really good so I hope yours was as well.   I finally got to apply for a job I have been wanting for a long time.  Last year I actually wrote it out and even created a plan of action for what I would want to do if I got the job.   So I'm finally excited that it was advertised and I got to apply.  It will be a few weeks before I know anything, but it feels right.  I'm stepping back into the world of supervisory/management work and that's a little scary for me although I have changed and grown so much since I last did it that I'm sure I'll be better.  Keep your fingers crossed for me.

I picked up a new client in my other business so it was sort of busy this week trying to get everything done for a new client.   I only took on the new client because I know I will be losing two clients this year.   I have decided I have a limit of how many clients I can handle at once and I'm really trying to stick to it.  I realized I was a bit overwhelmed with too many clients, but it was a lesson I had to learn.   I wanted time for me and my friends so with too many clients I was not there for myself and others.   Have you been able to figure out how to make some time for yourself?  A little balance never hurt anyone!!

Last night I finished this wonderful book:  An Invisible Thread by Laura Schroff and Alex Tresniowski.  It's the true story of an 11-year-old panhandler, a busy sales executive, and an unlikely meeting with destiny.   I could relate to many aspects of the book and realize why it's so important to give back.  I'm not sure we ever understand how we impact others.  The book is not very thick, but really touched me.   I'm sure those of you with readers don't care how thick it is (LOL)!  I hope you get a chance to read it.    Have any recommendations?

I met with some friends yesterday that I have not seen in a while.  We got caught up on all the news about family and friends.  It was a nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon.  I did not expect to be there as long as I was, but it was nice.   The sad part was when we discussed a friend that they have known forever and a day.  She may be the victim of verbal (they do not think physical) abuse.  It was so hard to hear why my friends have come to the conclusion and I can see why they think this way.  We discussed ways to be there for her whether it be listening without judgment or advising if she asks for it.  As we all know until someone hits their breaking point there is not much others can do, but be there.   It was just so sad to hear the story as this is a much older friend and it might be her son and daughter-in-law that are the culprits.   This whole discussion made me so sad and in some ways angry.   They asked if I regretted asking about her and I said no because having the discussion may have given them so ideas on how to help her.  Any ideas?

Heading out to lunch with a friend and her aunts that I have not seen since we traveled to Ireland together several years ago.  It will be nice to see them and enjoy some laughs today.   I hope you have some fun today.

Did you see last week the pre-game shows of both games?  I laughed so hard at the segments with the e-trade babies.  They were hysterical.  I can't wait for Superbowl Sunday as I love all the hype and pre-game shows.   I definitely look forward to the commercials.   Of course, now I have to wait months before I see the Fox pre-game show with Howie and Terry.

I have got to get moving here.   I hope you have a wonderful week.  Take care.  Chat soon.  Marie
