Thought for a Sunday 10/11/09
Hi Everyone!! Live from New York yes it's me. What a glorious fall weekend it has been. I have been walking around the city since Friday and I must admit my legs are a bit tired and tight right now. I walked over five miles after arriving on Friday and yesterday over nine miles. Not sure I'll get that many completed today, but it has been gorgeous. I have the window open and I'm listening to the sounds of the city. Not the blue sky I normally see from my window at home.
Friday night we decided to take the subway to Yankee Stadium to check out the crowds for the playoff game with the Minnesota Twins. The cheapest tickets to the game were $381 each which was too rich for our blood, but watching the people gather and the excitement in the air was worth the subway ride. We did run into a few Minnesota fans, but there were not too many.
There is always something going on in this city. You run into open air markets with streets blocked off to cars. Craft shows that has some fabulous artistry on display. Or my favorite...people watching which is always interesting at least to me.
Sometimes my weekends in NYC are about food. I spend way too much time watching the Food Network and then wanting to try some of the places mentioned. This weekend we tried the Shake Shack. I wanted to try Salt and Battery, but stopped for lunch at another of our favorite restaurants instead Elephants and Castles. We also stopped in to Jacques Torres Chocolate shop and I had the most decadent Mudslide cookie I have ever eaten. I ate it over two nights because it was so rich.
Of course, Patti and I were the only two crazy people at an outdoor cafe for breakfast - I must admit it was a bit chilly and breezy in the shade, but the food was excellent. Today I walked over the Brooklyn Bridge and back and the view is fantastic. Snooped around Chinatown and then up to Times Square to stop in at my favorite restaurant. The wait staff were quite in tune today as they served the mostly matinée crowd. Sat in Central Park for a while and enjoyed the lovely weather. Did not attend any shows this time, but planning to do that on future visits. I am so lucky to have friends with an apartment at a great location. The street we are staying on is blocked today and tomorrow as they are going to film the new Sex and the City Movie here. Don't think I'll stick around to be an extra, but you never know.
I did read "Have A Little Faith" by Mitch Albom this week. It's a story about two men and their journey in faith. It's not a thick book, but a very interesting read. My next book is James Patterson for a little murder and mayhem.
There is no TV in the apartment yet so got caught up on some magazines and then last night we checked out the shows we missed this past week via the computer. It was interesting watching this small lap top screen vice a normal size TV. The things I take for granted. Did not get my Howie Long fix today, but that's ok I was busy walking and getting great views of the city.
How was your week? Mine was pretty busy - sometimes feeling like I'mgoing and coming at the same time. Some times I have to sit back andthink - this is important to someone, but not life and death - let'stake a breath or two. That's one of my coping mechanisms. How aboutyou? What do you do when those around you are getting their panties in a bunch (so to speak)?
My friend in Boston is back in the hospital with another infection. She was moved from the rehab center back to the hospital. As I mentioned last week I tried calling her for three days and was getting ready to call the family when she called me. She told the nurse she had an infection and the nurse did not believe her. I don't understand why they would not believe her since she has been through this so many times, but I was not there so I should not judge. All I know is she called me the other night from the hospital and I thought she was had a stroke because the was having such a difficult time with words and speech. I then realized she is not so much medication it was impacting her her senses. I am so worried about her because to me it seems like her body is tired of fighting. I am also worried because I think I see my mortality in looking at her. That may sound weird, but it clicked the other night when she called. I can't say much more on this at the moment, but to say she is on the top of my prayer list.
Oh well looks like I have babbled on long enough today. I hope you have a great week. Chat soon. Marie
